A very green Green Thumb
When Steve purchased his house in September, it was just in time to harvest the garden the previous owners had planted. We had a lot of fun finding out what was back there- carrots, onions, herbs, tomatoes, squash, and peppers. Lucky for us, we got to reap all the rewards of a garden without any of the work.
I've wanted to have a garden for a while now, I just haven't had a place to put it before now, so I was very excited that the house Steve chose came with a garden already plotted. Unfortunately, neither of us knows what we're doing, so it's going to be quite the learning experience. I did a lot of gardening growing up with my family, but I hated it so much then (as it interrupted my play time) that I don't remember much. We found a basic instruction guide, purchased some seeds, and tried our best with them.
We planted in two waves, one a few weeks ago and another yesterday. We're finally finished (well, with the planting, there's a lot more work ahead) and so far, so good. We already have a few things coming up and there are several more plants that have come up completely on their own. Rosemary, cilantro, raspberries, mint, grapes and rhubarb have all been wonderful surprises and I'm sure there are more we haven't identified. Whoever lived there before Steve was quite the horticultural enthusiast.
Here are a few pictures of the backyard, our work in progress.

Good luck with your garden... all you need to do it water it, get sunshine (not available in Washington), make sure it is weeds you are pulling and wait until about the same time as last year and make some yummy salads! Have fun!!
